Done before, doing it again
Brief history
The Father Hudson complex was founded by George Vincent Hudson, he raised funds to build a home for catholic boys to escape them of poverty, deprivation, and child labour of the late 19th, early 20th century. Work began on St Edwards home for boys in 1905 and was completed in just little over a year. Soon after, St Gerard's the old wards hospital was built followed by the power house. The original Father Hudson complex continued building until the late 1940's, the complex today consists of 15 buildings, 7 of witch are derelict due to redundancy in the 80's and have stood empty since.
1 St Edwards boys home- Built in 1905 as a home for catholic boys, within lies a chapel and a theatre, everything needed to cater for the boys.
2 Power house- built in 1920#s as a generator and utilities.
3 St Mary's nurses home- Built in 1930's as a nurses hostel for nurses serving within the complex.
4 Old St Joseph's care home- built in 1940's as a care home for the elderly.
5 St Gerard's the old wards- Built in 1913 as a children's hospital for treatment against tuberculosis and more specifically the doctors practised in orthopaedics
6 St Philomena's convent- Built in 1940's as a convent for nuns serving at St Gerard's hospital.
7 St Edwards convent- Built in 1940's as a convent for nuns serving at the main boys home.
The complex's history is that of a safe haven for those accommodated there, but that is not the case according to occupants. There are many forum chats and blogs stating horrific things happening; such as; rape , slave labour, bullying, isolation in darkness, and beatings. Many people have said they lived in fear and are still haunted by terrible memories.
