Robert Garnetts Cabinet Works, Warrington. founded 1824 and the works built in 1906 . Well respected member of the community, actively funding local Churches etc

Born in Penketh, Warrington in June 1830 and died in Hall Nook, Peketh in april 1903. He was buried in Sankey.

The Italian designed Water Tower has been a point of interest in Warrington for generations.

Hi following on from the Cabinet Works Report with Telf, Will Knot & Urblex, i thought i"d add a separate one for the Water Tower as there"s little or nothing actually posted on-line about it, other than the demo debate that"s been raging for many years concerning the whole site and it"s potential development from a car Park to Residential/Business use........Pending.....still :)

I actually shot the Tower in descent mode rather than ascent during the climb due to the potential of Death :) The last time i saw something like this was one of Kwans great underground reports, showing rusty old ladders resting on other rusty old ladders resting on rotten timbers .......yaaaaaa

Not really a good idea as i"m scared of heights even though i used to fly, and sometimes get issues in confined spaces, but due to the heat exhaustion i was suffering onwards and upwards.

This involves climbing up some steel water pipes where the ladders are too risky or where the wooden stages have given way or are insecure. The pipes not recc" for the larger person, i just managed it climbing through with camera in front of me, squeezing past the decomposing Pigeons that are stacking up on the ladder that you have to push your face past. The roof section is totally flexible with missing slates and supports, and the ones that remain are rotten. I shot 360 degree views and nearly fell through the roof on one section as there"s nothing supporting one side except as little flashing. Nice views though, especially if you"ve never been to Warrington :)

Maybe i just need to lose more weight.

I didn"t realise till i came down and Telf told of the lack of Photos so i"ll give myself a :thumb and take it away again for not checking the camera battery before the climb, obviously luck for once was with me.......and twice as i got the pics.

Probably informative for the next visitors :)

Enjoy

Well done acid :thumb there's plans to knock the cabinet works down but save the tower, I've heard they need to move it slightly tho! Not that I believe the rumours but time will tell. Pic 16, the pyramid roofs are warrington market if anyone's interested!

Cheers Mate :)

Been on the NET all afternoon looking for additional info on both the Works & Tower & less than SFA TBH which surprised me, even off English Heritage site. Except the local paper reports following on from the suggested Car Park suggestions back in 2011

Think i need a new search engine :)

How long has the cabinet work been disused/derelict? I know it was occupied by CWS print works after Garnetts.

Quite an extensive time looking at the state of it. Google is a little short of info.

What it needs is someone more suited to historical research ........someone like Indiana Jones :) who knows what links to Nazi Germany lie hidden away

One things for sure whatever you find it'll be an epic adventure :popcorn :popcorn:D
