Visited today with my non-urbex friend, Paskey. This is my first ever urbex, and what a place to start.
It’s the old Brunswick campus of Gloscat (Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology). Gloscat relocated to Gloucester Docks a little over a year ago now, and this massive building has since lain empty.
The site is huge; it consists of an art-deco facade, workshop areas and a hideous, vulgar 9-storey teaching block. Unfortunately, this 60’s eyesore is the only bit visible from around the city. It is almost certainly the ugliest building in Gloucester, and that’s saying something.
The building has so far only suffered minor vandalism, but the slow process of dereliction has just begun; the odd broken window, the occasional stray ceiling tile, the first intruding weeds.
Theres still a lot of college tat in there, such as labs, woodwork drills, hair salon equpment, offices, fire hoses/extiquishers, and a complete food tech kitchen. Some rooms have been broken into and old coursework and art is strewn across the floor.
Anyway, enough said...
The art-deco frontage...
Oh, the talented architects of the 60's...
This was what welcomed us; it's the hair salons and beauticians. These could be found throughout the ground floor, complete with salon chairs, mirrors and soaps.
These disturbing heads could be found througout the building, and give you a fright when you least expect. They were obviously once part of the hair salons, but had managed to find they way onto most floors.
On to the canteen...
We past the canteen, and made our way to reception.
Despite its vandalised condition, the main foyer was warm, light and airy, and although grand and clad in marble, it was strangely comforting.
Next, we went to the woodwork department. There wer pillar drills, work benches and lots of timber, still ready to cut from the last days of the college.
This room was oddly homely, and this lone chair bathed in sunlight was rather comforting.
Haven't a clue what this was, but it looked good.
Another one of those damn heads...
Don't know why this fridge was here, seeing as this was a careers room.
Obviously, security wasnt an issue, as these wer near a broken window.
