A mate of mine mentioned to me about the Spit of Grain Battery Tower so i took a trip to the seaside to check it out, well not quite the sea:)! Parked the car and put on my wellies which was a good idea and headed off along the brick causeway, when i got to the tower i used a ladder which someone kindly left:)! Once inside i discovered some fabulous views and great brickwork architecture! A nice easy explore and well worth a lot!
Some history from subterranean history

Grain Tower is located on a spit off the Isle of Grain in Kent, it wasbuilt in 1855 as a Martello Tower type structure, with cannons mounted on the roof and barrack accomodation and magazines below. At low tide the tower can be reached by a causeway, but at high tideit is completely surround by water. The tower was upgraded during the first few years of the 20th century, and mounted with two quick-firing guns.A two storey adjoining accommodation block was built in WW2 when the tower was re-armed with two six-poounder guns, and a third-storey observation post built on top of the tower. The tower was manned until the 1950s and is a very interesting example of how advances in artillery resultedin adaption of a defence structure, with many features still remaining, it now however, remains empty and deteriorating with an unknown future.
