Hastings Pier - 13/03/09

This was an organized group visit with the flickr group "Hastings Channel".

History
Wikipedia said:
The pier was opened on August 5, 1872, by the then Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, Earl of Granville. It was designed by Eugenius Birch, who also designed the West Pier, Brighton ,although within the technical constraints of the late victorian period ,a remarkable design it was.

During the 1960s and 70s many famous rock and pop artists played at Hastings Pier. These included The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Hollies, Tom Jones, Pink Floyd, and Gary Glitter. A decline in the pier's fortunes was experienced during the last two decades, despite various owners trying to make it a viable concern. Rejected for millennium funding in 1996, Hastings Pier was subsequently put up for sale for £3.5m, and was closed to the public.

Although having been purchased by new owners for a short time, and once again providing activities with all-round appeal, Hastings Pier unfortunately now finds itself once again closed to the public.

On with the pictures then!

Well, it was a great day out and we all had great fun but upon going home it dawned on us that something that's loved by this town probably won't be opening again any time soon.

This is my first report so I'll be glad to receive any comments or suggestions!

Some more on my Flickr, I'll upload on there more when I get round to it.
