Heyrod power station is in north west close to stalybridge, preperation for the power station began in 1916 and was built on 26 acre's of land, the plant opened in 1926 by the stalybridge, hyde, mossley and duckinfield transport and Electricty board. The cooling towers were built in 1940's, coal was delivered to the plant and was fed in a hopper and transported by conveyer high above the river Tame part of this is still there today like some kind of monument, the plant was closed in 1979 and demolished in the 1980's.

BTW there's an air raid shelter here if anyone local wants to check it out. It was for the former village school (now community centre) An entrance is behind the new car park wall, not sure if there were others.
