Report - Im cooling tower and oil ( mazout ) reservoir - Belgium, Oct 2014

Went on a short trip to Belgium with BigBadAsh and SB80. Only had a couple of things planned but didnt quite manage to see the IM Power station , but we did get to see a fabulous oil reservoir. I had seen a report on it back in 2013 and always wondered why all of the subsequent reports on IM had failed to take a look, i myself had visited the Power station back in 2012 and had not noticed it. Access was quite easy and we climbed the staircase to about half way up and entered the reservoir through a small door, which had a two foot wide metal platform which went all the way round the inside, this seemed a little precarious especially as there was no railing to stop you falling 40 foot to the base, but what greeted us was something quite special. We next went up to the roof before heading over to the Cooling tower. I had been here a few years ago and always wanted a return visit armed with a fisheye. We didn.t manage to go over to the Power station so i will just add some of my pics from 2012.
I would definitely recommend a visit to the Mazout reservoir if you go to IM.

Nice one, looks stunning, your shots are killer. Love that first film shot too, looks stunning. Nicely exposed. Love those fisheye ones on the place as well they distort it nicely

That's well nice, wish I'd seen the res now! How did you achieve the height on the shots inside the cooling tower?

I extended my tripod and held it above my head, which caused a lot of shots to be blurred. I also did the same in reverse to take shot 13 which is the underside. A bit scarey hanging a £600 lens over mud at 25 feet

Pukka weekend and pukka pics. Really enjoyed spending time with yourself and SB80 the sites we visited were spectacular. Shame we didn't manage to have a cheeseboard but there's always next time :-)

Ah right yeah, I remember wincing at Sentinel doing the same thing with his brand new camera as soon as we got there.... Works a treat though
