Opened in 1896 and closed in 1992.
The re-development of this asylum has been off and on over the years, and with so many other asylums with their days numbered I thought I would have a look as I was on the Island.
The builders are making progress again with Admin block, water / clock tower and Private patients block having already been coverted, they are now working on the others. Strangely they have built modern blocks of flats on the site which look very out of place.

Clock / Water tower
The Recreation Hall has survived but sadly the Chapel hasn't. The interiors of all the buildings are stripped back to the brickwork.
There are cameras dotted round the site now and signs saying that Robowatch are now monitoring the premises.
I had a good walk around and was on my way out before anyone turned up. He asked why was I taking photo's, (historical interest) it's private property (I know, why did you leave the gate open?) he took my car registration and left.
Made for an interesting hour; I think this one will now be finished before the years out.
Sunset over Fawley Power station
Thanks, Liam.
