Kingsway had been on the list of local leads for a while, a non-member friend of mine and I paid a recent recce and found a way in, and I returned recently with James, Raptor Jesus and Sophietherat. Sadly it was pretty bare and not hugely exciting but felt I should post it to save anyone else the bother of visiting, that said I could be biased as I've always been the "hater" camp with regards to asylums (though I'm a firm believer in each to their own).
Kingsway Hospital was established as the Derby Borough Asylum in 1884, coincidentally the same year as Derby's professional football team. The building was completed in 1888 and designed by BS Jacobs of Hull in the corridor layout built around several courtyards. The Victorian part of the hospital was modernised considerably during the 20th century, the most recent in the 1990s, however this did not deter closure in 2009 during the shake up of Derby's medical provision.
