Here are two Coal based sites from last month's trip over the channel, one in France, the other just over the border in Germany.

We'll start with Kohlenwasche GG.
Boasting the tallest head frame in the world at 90m (plus two tiddlers), this mine closed in 2000 after being the most important mine in the Saar region for some 100 years. At its peak, it could shove out 1050 tonnes of raw coal per hour or 2.5m tonnes per year.
During WW2, ze Germans used Russian prisoners of war as forced labourers to mine the coal there.
