the metro cinema opened on 22nd of april 1920 as the majestic cinema it had a variety of names in its life it changed to gaumont then odeon then when odeon closed it in 1980 it then became the metro cinema operated by john downs who also owned the palace in stalybridge.
the cinema closed in august 2003 and the amusement arcade stayed open until a few weeks ago .the building is now up for sale or rent
