Monks Park Quarry - Corsham

Having finally managed to get back down to Wiltshire with our sights set on other stuff we had to quickly make other plans as the welding fairy had been playing

As we'd looked at Monks last year and couldn't get in we thought it was worth checking again... :cool

A brief history:
Monks Park quarry started it's life in 1886 as a Bath stone quarry. In 1937 the quarry was used as an ammunition and explosives store up until 1954 when a 10 acre area of the quarry was converted by the Royal Navy as an extension to the stores at Spring Quarry and Copenacre Quarry.
Leafield Engineering (MoD suppliers) are resident to half of the quarry and the the rest left as-is.

Having spent over a day in here I don't think my photos show even half of it (excuse to go again ;) )

A crane in rather good condition - this has rail wheels as well as normal ones, first I've seen like this
