Haven't managed to find a whole lot of history on this site. It used to be a "schlachthof" which translates as a slaughterhouse, where animals were made ready for consumption as food products. I read somewhere, that at one point in the 1990s, the NFZ was the 2nd largest slaughterhouse in Europe, though I cannot verify this. The NFZ closed down in February 2005, when all the workers were made redundant. Came across this site by chance whilst looking for a hotel, and well, it seemed rude not to take a peek. Once access gained, the site is pretty huge and there is a fair bit to see here. Visited with a non-member (my brother)
