With a planned revisit to West Park postponed due to recent over-exposure and our backup plan being rained off, Courageous and I hit the road yesterday to find something local and, preferably, dry to do. So, hows about a disused underground reservoir. That should be pretty dry….

There are two of these ‘tanks’ side by side. We only looked through the hatch of the northern one as it appeared to be exactly the same.

Next to the access ladder is a large ballcock device, and what was presumably the fill point

In the opposite corner was this device. My guess is that it may have been used to pump air into the reservoir to prevent the water from becoming stagnant.

Not entirely dry, but good enough.

I’ve since found a planning application lodged in 2007 to convert these two tanks into a single dwelling, retaining most of the existing structure but chopping a corner out and replacing it with a glass wall and courtyard. Could have been pretty cool.
