This was the first Maginot fort that we visited and it didn't disappoint (even if the pictures do...). The construction of Ouvrage Mont des Welches was began in 1930 with the fort becoming operational in 1935, the fort successfully held off a German attack in June 1940. Ouvrage Mont des Welches was renovated to some degree in the 1950's and decommissioned in the 1970's.
