An area of wasteland at the corner of the old Shell site at Carrington, bounded on the south side by a disused railway line.

Part of it was gasworks, which also extended on the other side of the railway, and part was used by the National Grid.

I originally went to look at a pumphouse, A on the picture below, but this turned out to be still in use.

However there were a few other derelict buildings B - E scattered around so I went back later to examine these.

They were all empty, more interesting on the outside than the inside, probably why there are no reports on the place.

Pictures are a mixture of camera and phone.

Live pumping station A, still noisily pumping and compressing gas for the national pipeline.

B. A large concrete water tank with a little empty pumphouse next door.

I don’t know why this is here, but there used to be a gasworks building on the vacant plot next door, so maybe connected with that.

C. This is marked as a ‘workshop’ on a 1971 plan. Just a big shed with some trashed offices, once home to gas-related service companies.

D. Shown as an ‘alternator house’ it’s now two large empty sheds with some derpy offices in the middle.

E. Shown as ‘control rooms’ these seem to have been last used as offices and call centres for more gas-related services.

Only the southern building was accessible at the time.

There is planning approval for redevelopment of this area, so all of these buildings except A are likely to be demolished.

The one with the phone at the doorway, it was the only building really with anything left, the rest was just one massive derp.

That lockdown rave was here also where it ended in fatalities, surprised it’s still a walk in really

If this is the southern 'E' block then I must have missed them.

I did wonder about all the rubbish and N2O bottles scattered around though...

Nice comprehensive report there!

Always liked the fancy gateway at the end of the Broadway onto the other part of the site - think that side is well and truly flat these days?

There used to be a banging sandwich van just a bit further up the road from here.
