History:

Porth Wen Brickworks first built by Charles E Tidy, is now a disused Victorian brickworks which produced fire bricks, made from quartzite (silica) used to line steel-making furnaces. The substantial remains include a number of buildings and the remains of some of the machinery, but has some damage from sea erosion. The site is a scheduled monument.

Brickmaking started on the site in the mid 19th century, with the tramroad being added later, and the existing buildings being built in the early 20th century. Although the brickworks ceased production in the first half of the 20th century (sources vary on the date; either 1924 or 1949), the buildings and much of the equipment remain in situ.

The explore:

My morning started nice and early on Anglesey. Its a real easy explore this although one of the major walls is really leaning over now due to the sea errosion. Id be careful trying to climb it anyways. The most dramatic part of this explore was getting beached on 3 wheels doing an 100 point U turn. Thankfully a little jumping on my sill with my foot through the accelerator I managed to get back on the ground and parked up. With only 1 local pulling funny faces at me. The pictures are as follows...

Yeah weve been super lucky for the past 3 years weve done wales on a heat wave. There was a small group of lads who had camped over but were no bother to us. Wish i lugged the inflatable kayak down to the beach tho.
