Report - RAF Flixton..Suffolk, November 2018

I have had a quick look here when I first started exploring. But decided to have a little revisit as I liked the air crews graffiti in the canteen area. A nice enjoyable relaxed walk around here. Idid two bits of the site. First the technical area then the headquarters site. The airfield designated station 125 was constructed in 1942 and was in use till 1955. It was built as a satellite for RAF Hardwick. The runway measured 6,000 feet and had two secondary runways. The airfield was used by the US airforce as a bomber station, it was designated to the navy after the war and became known as HMS Europa, then returned to the RAF till closure as a maintenance sub depot.
Starting off at the technical side of the site.

Nice little bit off graffiti in one of the sheds.

This block I had not been on on the precious visit. Not totally sure what it was. It had some concrete seats with hooks above and some shower areas. Maybe for the gymnasium and other sports.

It's surprising how many go away but don't do anything in there own county. I see it all the time. I actually do loads in Norfolk. And always have, especially in winter time..

Liking this. Those old sketches are great. Especially the 704th Squadrons motto and nickname. Brilliant . Before the pandemic I used to go to Suffolk once a yr camping. Hopefully when I get back to it, this will still be about. Bonus toilets for your collection too. Nice decay in them.

Thank you Jane. Yeah the old murals are definitely the highlight for me. Hopefully you can get back too Suffolk. It should all still be there. Always nice when you get a few toilets in a place like this.
