Just written this report and lost the lot when the website declared me "not logged in" :banghead
So this is my second attempt in an hour.

During 1942 - 1943 a type 7 "Ground Controlled Intercept (GCI)" was deployed at Trimley Heath and included numerous Buildings including the interestingly known "Happidrome" and manned pits or wells containing equipment for the transmitter and reciever and in time became an important site even tracking the first recorded UFO at more than 1000 mph. Records from Trimley were even used by investigators who were prompted to conclude that UFO's were "interplanetary"

After the war the site was reduced to a care and maintenance state, but staged a remarkable comeback and in 1948 the Site was substancially developed with a raft of new Buildings being erected ultimately housing 300 personnel.

Unfortunately in 1951 a fire ravaged the operations centre completely destroying it, whilst the station continued to operate, the fire had all but sealed the fate of the site. Initially the site was earmarked for upgrade to ROTOR status, however due mainly to the fire damaged state of the site, the plans were cancelled and the "sector operations centre" status was transferred to Kelvedon Hatch.

The Site closed in the mid 50's and the mass of Buildings that once existed, only a precious few survived including the brick standby power House and a couple of personnel buildings.

Anyway, enough of the history lesson, on with the Pics.

It's a big place.

Considering the history of this Site, it's a real shame to see what its become, mercifully the Vandals have left it alone, and hopefully, in future something will be done to maintain or preserve what's left.

Thanks for looking.
