Visited with bobblehead.
This place is huge, and despite spending best part of an afternoon mooching around I reckon we still missed loads. Millions of rounds of airsoft ammo all over the place, really glad they weren't there when we were
RAF Upwood opened in 1917, and was continually in use with the RAF until 1981. From 1981 until it's closure in 1995 it was occupied by the USAF as a satellite station to Alconbury, and was used to provide housing and support services for staff stationed there. In 1986 the US Military spent a large amount of money opening up a medical facility on the site to provide out-patient care to service personnel in the area.
In 2004 a large part of the airfield including the hangers were purchased by Turbine Motor Works. The runway is still used by the Nene Valley Gliding Club.
