Visited with bobblehead.

This place is huge, and despite spending best part of an afternoon mooching around I reckon we still missed loads. Millions of rounds of airsoft ammo all over the place, really glad they weren't there when we were :D

RAF Upwood opened in 1917, and was continually in use with the RAF until 1981. From 1981 until it's closure in 1995 it was occupied by the USAF as a satellite station to Alconbury, and was used to provide housing and support services for staff stationed there. In 1986 the US Military spent a large amount of money opening up a medical facility on the site to provide out-patient care to service personnel in the area.

In 2004 a large part of the airfield including the hangers were purchased by Turbine Motor Works. The runway is still used by the Nene Valley Gliding Club.
