A Bit of History............

An old small mill building in Honley on the outskirts of Huddersfield. Built in 1847. Formerly and mainly the home up to recently of the Holme Rug Co. Not much remains regarding the company except from a certificate of Incorporation in 1960 establishing itself as a Limited Company. Information of the companies are also limited, but there are some signs, bits and pieces around of old looms in the loft space.

Whilst the mill has been used for varies types of business on the other floors, the ground floor has a forklift truck and a load of old tyres in there, which appeared to be last used in some capacity as a garage or MOT centre. In 2010 a planning application was made for a change of use and conversion into an MOT garage, which was approved but not acted upon.

It's better than it looks this one. You can sort of see the layers of history as you ascend the floors.

I will just note though, being a pedant/enthusiast... It was built in 1847 this mill. So the claim that it's 'main' tenants were the Holme Valley Rug Co. is just a little short-sighted, especially as you point out they were only in operation for 15 years.

Nice stuff. Glad it's still considered good enough for people to pay a visit after all this time

Thanks for the info there Tweek, I really meant that they were the main occupiers up to recently, prior to the closure. :thumb So i'll take out the 15 year bit as they were Incorporated as a Limited Company in 1960. Ta very muchly. :)
