Sheffield Central Post Office (Night visit) - December 2012
Visited with Kaplan
It was a wintry night in Sheffield. The streets were filled with alcohol-fuelled revellers enjoying christmas cheer. Lyrical genious and all-round respectable young man 'Dappy' was in town for a good old sing-song and litterally tens of youngsters had come out to see him. In the middle of all this, two bearded men were in search of rooftops. After a string of failz, they settled for a derp.
History
Sheffield's Head Post Office operated in [Fitzalan] square for almost ninety years. Built in 1910 as an addition to the 1897 post office building on Flat Street, it closed in 1999, with the main post office moving to new premises within the Co-op store on Angel Street. The Grade II listed Post Office building was up for sale for a considerable time before finally being sold for development in early 2006.
Due to this being a nighttime visit and the fact that there really is very little of interest remaining, our visit centered around the infamous spiral staircase and the rooftop.
On with the photos...
