Well, an interesting finish to an interesting weekend. Me, Rooks and Turkey met up with Podge at a working cold war (and older) air base, for a flight around the South coast for a bit of site spotting and general flying around...

Started with the mint hangars, the sirens and lights as the doors open and the light starts pouring through the ever increasing opening. Awesome. Then, after fuelling the plane up, we took off and headed over the New Forest to the Isle of Wight.

Here's Whitecroft Asylum...

Also saw a lot of the batteries, and the rocket test site.

Along the South coast now, over Portsmouth and Gosport and eventually up to Epsom, after randomly flying over Witley Wonder en route...

Also saw St Ebbas, but my pictures were even worse than these.

Now we had been flying for several hours and it was time to head back.

Thick-rimmed glasses rule! The asylums look like little model villages:D I'll add my pics onto this thread but they are very wonky coz me and planes don't mix very well:(

haha thats ace!!

shots are really nice esp considering all the werid angles and that you get from up there!

I like the conversion done on long grove, keeps the main ward blocks and admin and puts some space around them :D

Thats very cool. I love flying me, I love landing me.
Maybe we could organise to fly over of mines..... oops
I know a few slate mines you could fly a small aircraft inside, no shit.

What a great opportunity!

I've been considering going for a pilot's license in a few years, but can't really justify it. I've done about 5 or 6 hours flight time but just never bothered continuing it. To be honest, I don't think many people would get in a plane if I was flying it anyway, I quite like acrobatics :D

It was my first time in a light aircraft and I loved it...

truly epic trip, and great to see the asylums from above for my self rather than looking at somebody elses pictures..

OT's pictures are better than mine, but here goes, all shot with the 10-20 thats why :(

That's a proper tour!

What lens did you use? The 10-20 isn't really any good for aerial, always looks proper distant. Need more targets!

Chickenboy has a nifty fifty - why didn't he use it?

Great shots though - looks like a blast!
