after setting off easter sunday morning with no real sort of plan, myself and lesbub ended up at ace cafe, wembley, for breakfast. after not really fitting in with all the bikers...lol we then went to check out central middlesex up the road and were greeted by the sight of the demo excavator arm in what was left of the last old building, so apart from the birth centre block and old refectory, the old central midds is virtually no more. we then had a p.i.r. and alarm scare at a social club nearby so dashed to a similer place down the road which was trashed, after this sort of luck we left and drove round the north circular and after almost going round in circles in hackney and having the a to z to hand, we decided to have a look at st andrews.
a quick call to ridds and a look for ourselves confirmed the old access is well secure but we managed another way, after a bit of sneaking about we found a way in the main building but the doors to the main corrider were secured and navigation was awkward to say the least.
all was well until we were making our way from the top floor to the middle one when we just caught a view of two security guards coming towards us, so as quickly and quietly as we could we made our way back upstairs but they were on to us with me hiding in some lift doors recess and lesbub oppposite in a ward block. they then must have been within ten to fifteen feet of us as they were walking/talking calmly and quietly and i could hear everything they were saying, by then they were doing the same as us though, just stationary and listening and it seemed to go on for ages like a stalemate. this was my first ever evasion and i was shaking like a leaf with fear/adreneline or both and eventually one said to the other that he thinks we'd gone on the roof, after waiting what seemed like another age, they made their way back so i slither out and do a supersonic tiptoe down the stairs with lesbub nowhere in sight. knowing the difficult navigation, i wait at the exit of a wing, checking my phone, waiting to see if he catches me up when i get a call from him saying he's already out. i make my way back to the original entry across open ground and over the wall to the bemusment of locals and into the nearest pub. we meet up for a few stiff drinks to get over it and swapping versions of events, it seems they may patrol the buildings regularly as we were being pretty quiet, and were'nt expecting to see anyone as a car was near a building at the front.
by the way theres loads still left to see with some great victorian features.
