I know there are already quite a few threads regarding this location on here already but this is my first report and I am using it as a bit of a practice, so any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.
Originally called the East Kent County Asylum ( or second Kent County Asylum), St Augustine's, founded in 1875, (Re-named to St Augustine's in 1948) was a hospital intended to house mentally unstable patients throughout the early 19th century and early to mid 20th century.
The site was renamed and expanded when it was sold to the NHS in 1948 as it was un-able to house the required amount of patients that the 1845 lunacy act required them to. Although the hospital did the job that was required of it well, there was unfortunately a peak in notoriety as several malpractice suits were pressed against the staff and owners. The site closed for good in 1993 and was mostly demolished, however a few buildings remain that we have photographed.
