Hey Guys, Back with my 2nd report
Finished work early today so finally managed to have a look around this place without any builders around. I was a little bit too late as the place is pretty much gutted and re-development is in full swing.
Only got round the first building as the others wasn't as easy to access and the sun was setting fast!
Anyway here is a little bit of history:
A grade II listed building. This building was previously known as St. Endmund's Workhouse where people unable to support themselves were offered a place to stay and employment. Northampton workhouse was built in 1836 at the north side of the Wellingborough Road, to the north-east of the Northampton. It could accommodate 300 inmates and it cost approximately £7,000. The building was designed by George Gilbert Scott who was the architect of many other workhouse buildings including ones for the nearby Kettering and Oundle Unions. After 1930 the Workhouse was taken over by Northampton Borough Council and re named St. Edmund's Hospital and operated until 1998. The site is now undergoing re-development.
No tripod on this trip im afraid, all free hand.
Thanks for viewing
