History

St. Peter's was originally established as Rainsford High School in 1939. It was a Church of England voluntarily aided school situated in Chelmsford, Essex.

The school expanded over the years with the addition of a large science block in the 1960’s and a sixth form was later established (St. Peter's college) with the addition of a theatre and performing arts building.

From the 90’s the population of students began to steadily decline due to competition from other large competing schools in the area (Hylands, Chelmer Valley High, St. John Payne and the Boys County High). Along with the decline of the student numbers the exam results also began to plummet dramatically with only 8% of students receiving A*-C's between 2006 -2010.

Despite attempts to turn the school’s fortunes around it closed it’s doors for the last time in August 2011.

The Explore

Explored with fellow 28DL members slayaaaa and robg172. A huge thanks to slayaaaa for all his help with the access which was certainly fun / challenging and being kind enough to show us around the site. We probably would have missed some gems here if it wasn’t for him. His report from previous visits can be found below. Thanks man, was good to meet you! :thumb

A fun site which is certainly a challenge to navigate as it is buttoned up pretty tight all around. We managed to cover pretty much everything that wasn’t completely locked down with the highlights being a rather brave access to the previously inaccessible library building (well played robg172! :thumb) resulting in a shockingly loud alarm and some beautiful views from the clocktower.

It looks like the site may have been used for police training or filming of some description as there is an abundance of police tape and spent blank shells lying around in some buildings which was an odd (and slightly unsettling) sight to find in a school.

There is visible security on site but even after triggering a couple of PIR alarms they simply turned them off and we weren’t bothered any further. Happy days.

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable explore with some good laughs and great company. Thanks gents!

I like this. Looks a bit like my old primary school. Schools don't look like schools anymore... if that makes sense!
