Hi just a quick report from a chimney tower in Sheffield.

History

I actually cant find any history for this site. apparently it was one of 8 chimneys left from a.j. lee and sons works in Sheffield. i cant even find any history of the site which is a shame as it is a huge area, apart from that it was demolished in 2009 leaving this one chimney. part of the original site is now occupied by htc crane hire.

if anybody has any history etc feel free to add it

Ditto. When I see this, it's off at the next junction! What type of survey were you doing?

It"s either the first or last thing you see when looking at the Tower Cranes, it must be famous lol

Some bloody scrap on the thing that"s for sure, even i"d climb that ladder ;)

Probably over a 100k worth of scrap if you bought new lol. But not worth anything to weigh in tbh.

Small snippet of history to add:

The part of the site occupied by the crane company used to be a crusher manufacturer. When I moved to Sheffield in 2005 I did a survey job there (actually in the empty grassy part you can see in your 4th and 5th shots). At that time there was still just the one chimney so I don't know when the others went.
Can't remember the name of the crusher manufacturer but the place closed I think around 2008 and was demo'd in 2009 which ties up with the date you mentioned above.

Edit: I did hear that nowadays the chimney actually sits on land owned by the pub at the bottom.

Also: Not sure how many have survived but there were numerous reports on 28 from around 2009ish claiming the crusher place was something else far more impressive... Not been able to find any of them though!

That's the one.

Might have to try and dig out my shots from there and stick them up...
