The Olympia is situated on West Derby Road, about a mile to the east of the city centre,
Built as a theatre seating 3750, it opened in April 1905. The architect was the celebrated Frank Matcham, who liked to top his work with a tower of some kind. The building subsequently became a cinema from 1925 - 39, the Locarno Ballroom 1949 - 64 and Mecca Bingo. This century, the current use is for corporate events, the odd rock concert and wrestling. It is also up for sale for about £1.7 million.
This explore was a lunchtime one, whilst legally on another part of the premises. No risks were taken, despite how it might look.
