Made a couple of trips to the Tilty Mill this and last month. I got round most of the buildings there, although there was what looked like a stable next to it that entry involved climbing through a bee’s nest. Something which I was not particularly up for doing, especially as I could see there wasn’t much in there to look at...
The Tilty Mill is the last remaining water mill in Essex. Built in the 18th century, it is grade 2 listed. It finished it’s career milling in the 1950s, and the machinery seems entirely intact from what I saw.
Planning permission was submitted - and initially accepted - in 2007 to convert the mill into luxury housing, but this was eventually overturned by the secretary of state in 2008 after a campaign by a number of concerned local individuals and groups.
I'm just glad I didn't bump into who/whatever had cut a few rats in half at the waist on the top floor...! :crazy
