Ive visited this place twice over the past year and loved it both times. If you're a fan of natural decay and old victorian buildings, then this one is for you!
The site consists of a main hall, a secondary hall, kitchens at the rear, and what appear to be accomodation blocks attatched. There are also some toilets and showers located on the site, being overlooked by the main building. Theres also a very overgrown playground, you can see some of the paint still on the concrete if you look hard enough!
Opened in 1866 by Canon John Scott, the rector, who collected money to fund the building of the school, he contributed £150 himself, with funds coming from other local people.
The school was originally a Church school, but failing to raise the funds for its necessary enlargement led to the compulsory formation of a School Board in 1879. Over the next few years, the school continued to increase in size, including the addition of a porch, a new head teacher's house which was built on a fresh site in Church Lane, and the old one was then occupied by the school cleaner.
The school performed well for a nu,ber of years, with student numbers increasing yearly, but six years later, following some of the students being moved to a nearby education centre, demand for the school decreased, meaning by the early 1950s, there were only around 70 children in regular attendance.
The school has stood vacant for a number of years. Its in a state of disrepair now, with the roof in what i would assume is the main school hall falling in and allowing the weather to damage the building further.
There isnt a huge amount of history avaliable on this place but Ive done the best write up i can without just copying and pasting!
