The first big bit of industrial dereliction I did, and it was rather nice. It's also another place that shows just how little graffiti culture exists in Alabama, this place has been closed for years and is wide open so would be a perfect playground for them but there are maybe two or three noticeable bits of graffiti in the entire place.

There isn't a great deal of history readily available for the foundry, it was built in 1933 and produced zinc, copper and aluminium ingots until it closed around 2010. Following closure a lot of the equipment and machinery was stripped out but they stopped halfway through for some reason, leaving a fair amount of big stuff still inside. In addition to the foundry there are small art deco laboratory, bath house and office buildings which have quite a bit of stuff left inside. I was unable to get many exterior photos due to it being sandwiched between a busy road, an active yard, and a very much operational railway line with workers dotted around.

It was unfortunately around this time that I realised my tripod was having some major issues around the head area, it was a constant battle to shoot straight and level which was very frustrating but that was only the start of those particular woes!

Nice bit of international industry. Nice to see some machines left, nice decay on them. Confused by that chair in pic 4, but then Ive no idea about quite a few of these machines. Just love shooting them and viewing them. The lab looks interesting too.

Oh my days that’s a beauty. It’s funny the graff thing I always imagine every site covered in it. Maybe their more into doing freight cars down that way.

The chair was put up there years ago by another explorer and has remained in situ ever since, it's become one of the 'tourist' shots of this place for the few people who find themselves here!

Yeah that's lovely. Love how you can just walk in them and no vandalism.

This was more of a convoluted walk in than a simple off the street deal but yes, down there it's like a different world for the most part - much to my shock and delight.

Thats quite cool. My neighbour moved to Alabama 3 years ago, he was my sons friend. He loves it there. Now has permanent residency
