The history of this mill has been covered elsewhere, it dates back to 1782 and is probably one of the most historically significant industrial buildings in Scotland.

1782. That's 227 years old. Think about it for a minute. Over 200 years.

It's in a sorry state, parts have been burned, but to stand in here was to feel like being back in time. Seeing pictures of the old conditions and then realising that around 10 years ago people were working in basically the same conditions was a shock to me. Victorians transported through time wouldn't have felt out of place.

The history of industry can be seen her more than any museum I've ever seen. The water powered primary drive for the line shaft systems, then it's conversion to generating electricity, through to a modern mini hydro system, all here in situ. Engineering workshops from Victorian to today. A great start to a great trip. Visit with OT & dweeb.
