To help with the regeneration of Stratford, the Strand East Tower was built with the olympic torch in mind. The tower is 40m high and was finished last July. It is made from a wooden lattice of 72 twisted, diagonal laths and 16 horizontal steel rings held together by 32,000 bolts. It also has 600 LED lights!~
It narrows in the centre to form a hyperboloid shape, just 6.3m wide, opening out to 8.3m at the top.

After the usual gasometers, Gaj and I headed to Stratford - Dane’s yard, where the structure is based. It had closed for the night so we began to climb this psychedelic tower which parties all night and well into the morning - bet local residents love it! ~
