Abbey School was founded and owned by Miles Amherst (1931-2013)
Founded in 1973, at its peak the school provided education for over 120 children, including a great number whose places were part-funded by bursaries from Miles Amherst. A downturn in pupil numbers led to the school’s closure in 2006. The site was sold and Miles son Michael set up Avonbrook Projects Abroad with the proceeds.
Before Miles Amherst founded the Abbey School, it was the Tewkesbury Girls school, this building became available when the council decided to make one mixed sex comprehensive school. I believe at some point in it's history a part of it was also a Magistrates court.
A very nice piece of history History of Tewkesbury Abbey choir school – of choristers ancient and modern
For many years building work has been rumoured to be starting at any time, turning the school into a block of apartments... so far there is no real sign of that processing beginning.
There's not much other than building left any more, but still an enjoyable place to look around ... (maybe that's because we don't have much near by choice...)
Imagination got the better of me... I didn't go into the loft on this occasion!
If you've not been overloaded I have a few more photos on my flickr...

Second attempt at a report so any advice is greatly welcome.
