Visited with the urban junky.

The West wing of this small day hospital closed in 2006. It housed Childrens wards, eye surgery, obstetrician & gynecologist surgery as well as some training facilities. The majority of the interior is in a terrible state however this place is a good example of how the NHS likes to waste resources and leave lots of stuff lying around. There are plans to build around 170 flats on the site.

Such a shame that this hospital ended up in such a state. I was a student nurse here, 1983-1986, and after qualifying worked as a Staff Nurse on D7 a male medical ward before working on Intensive/Coronary Care.

In those days the majority of students lived in the nurses residences and we had some wild party’s. One of the residences was the original Manor House that had occupied the grounds and the school of nursing was housed in the old workhouse. The hospital chapel had originally been a private chapel belonging to the Manor House and was used by inmates from the workhouse.
