On the return drive from a fail at Whittingham with NickUK, the Blackburn exit was too much to resist, i'd visited before but it was on Nicks list so we stopped by, plus i wanted to get some shots of the dome with the wangle.
The place is a total wreck, just how i remembered it. The dome ceiling is still a winner though
The Blackburn Royal Infirmary was opened in 1865. It was one of the first examples of the 'pavilion' style hospital in England. Designed by Roger Turnbull. There were several additions over the following years..... in 1901 the Victoria Wing was added. In 1928 as a tribute to the local men killed in the First World War, another section was completed. Designed by local architects Sames and Green......The War Memorial Wing. . . . .
The hospital which housed Blackburn's only A&E department was closed in 2006.
Thanks for looking
