The ‘Express Works’ in Brailsford, Derbyshire was home to 3 businesses – Brailsford Pottery, Stoneworks International and some kind of cement mixer hire place.
The works themselves originally started life in the 1870’s as an industrial site for the production of cheese and by 1891 it was known as ‘Brailsford Cheese Manufacturing Association’.

A planning application lodged in 2017 has recently been approved for demolition of the redundant pottery & tile works and conversion and retention of one outbuilding and the ‘Dairy House’ – a farmhouse attached to the works, which has a fine array of garish wallpaper.

Of the businesses themselves, Stoneworks (or Stone Direct) are manufacturers & importers of marble, slate and granite tiles. The company went into administration and looks to now have a new lease of life in another works in nearby Church Broughton.

Not much info on the pottery business other than they were called ‘Brailsford Pottery UK Ltd’ and produced rather attractive stoneware jars. There were some old moulds lying around for a more ‘art pottery’ style too.

Visited over the summer and autumn with various people, but a big thanks to @oldboots who spotted the place while out driving.

I saw this place has recently been gooned on YouTube so I thought I'd better get my act together posting some stuff up from last year that I haven't got around to yet...

Swung past today and development appears to be getting started, car park at the front is all excavated with plant and cabins on site and the small building closest to the road has been demolished. So it's not long for this world it would seem.
