I did 2 visits here last year but had a camera issue & lost all my pics from the first visit so a revisit was always on the cards.
Step up @HughieD to join me on a miserable day for said revisit. Really handy actually as I can be lazy & tell you all the history you can possibly want can be found here ;)

So Ill just bombard you with the pictures.

I went at night in that heatwave of 2018, I remember getting in to the building next door as well but it was empty. I seem to remember making some precarious structure with an old door to climb up to the crane but it was the best bit lol. Some torches and shouting at the big fence made me take a hasty exit through a much easier way out than I took on the way in lol.

Nice pics.

Liking it fella, always good to see Butterley. To be fair you can't add too many photos from this place, it's an incredibly important piece of industrial history!

There's more to it still hidden about on the land, compressor building in the bushes round the back and blast furnace bank now also quite well hidden in the bushes to the right hand side... If you where able to get 50 foot underground you'd come across the wide hole too, apparently the only operated underground dock of the Industrial Revolution!

I used to work at a gear cutting company that did some subcontracted machining for butterly engineering. I remember key seating slots in huge spur and pinion gears for them.
Am I correct in thinking the spiral staircase and the elevated office above it were used as a location in a TV drama/film shortly after the factories closure.?

Not sure about the tv set, maybe someone can answer that though would be interesting to know!
