I wanted to field test my new torch & camera, and Clawson tunnel was the perfect place to give them a good road test. So we battled through the snow to an old favourite of ours.
We visited last summer (King Mongoose reported), so this is a good opportunity to compare old photos to new. (I’m relieved to say the new photos are superior!) Also, the change in season and all this snow makes some striking contrasts at the portals, so I’ve thrown in a few older photos for comparison.
The history briefly, as its been done before. Also known as the Hose tunnel, built in 1879, closed 1964. Fairly long at 834 yards, but no airshafts. Tunnel is dry, and in good condition considering its half century neglect, although some of the lining is crumbling towards the north portal. Visit with King Mongoose & his lad.
