It was the year 1936 when Huddersfield’s Co-operative was built and May 1937 when it officially opened its doors.

Its chief architect was W.A. Johnson and it was revolutionary in its design for a commercial building of the time.

On opening day, the Examiner said the Co-op gave “the town of Huddersfield a store that is entirely modern in design and equipped on the most up-to-date lines-a store of which the townspeople generally, and co-operators in particular, can be proud.”

After a couple of gos at this place not noing what to realy expect. We finally got in. That was fun and games in its self. After wondering around some empty rooms full of pidgin shit working our way down we come to Heaven and hell pretty mad in here shame the rag and bone men have been in.

Was a tacky nightclub for closure early noughties, there's also been photos from inside posted in the Examiner before now.

Hi guys

New member, and new to urbex in general. Mainly through my passion of photography through illness. I was actually a resident dj for Club Heaven and Hell. And worked this venue for a while. (We live and learn) the Co-op in Huddersfield has been a play space since I was 3 yr old in the Fraternity Hall Theatre which was where the old Co-op dairy was. Now Wilkinsons car park opposite the multi storey.
