Valley mill produced woolen cloth and blankets (along with the rest of Huddersfield, Halifax and the Clone Valley) In the 1950's the company invented a new type of fabric which combined the warming properties of wool with the waterproofing of polyester.
The new macs sold very well, although were branded 'naff' by many. Many cartoons of the 1960's showed former PM Harold Wilson in his, which he was rarley without.
The mil closed in the early 2000's.
We were only able to access about 1/3rd of the mill, but that 1/3rd was epic! Much remains including machinery, 'Gannex' products, 60's photographs, ephemera as well as the mill itself being hugley photogenic!
Valley Mill is to become a new office development.
