GEC once occupied a huge site in witton, B'ham. The works produced switchgear and other electrical components. It was sold in the late 60's from GEC to Parson Peebles, who operated it until the 1980's when all but the chimney and impressive front office block were demolished.

We picked a bad time to climb the scaffold really, as it was shift changeover at the works which is literally under the chimney! We had to sit and watch as dozens of people spilled ot of the factory, pottered in their cars and made their way home.

The top offered good views of the city and Spaghetti Junction. A nice feature of the chimney is the ceramic magnet wraped with copper wire which was a nice remnant of the site's electrical connection.
