Had a few hours to spare today so decided to check this local site out.
The tunnel was built as part of the Leicester & Swannington Railway which opened in 1832. The section from Leicester to Desford Junction was closed in 1966. Parts for ventilation shafts which are under repair are being stored on the trackbed at present. Unfortunately it was not possible to gain access to the tunnel itself, but pictures were obtained through a hole in the door.
