Goldberg's department store closed in 1991, following a series of financial problem for Goldbergs (found an article from 1990 stating that the candleriggs store was the last one to stay open)
it was bought by Vera Weisfeld and reopened in 1994 as Weisfeld's, a budget clothing store (but not the entire building was used) this closed in 1999.
The granny Black's pub staff lived in a tennement building next to the Goldberg's building, the tennement building mysteriously collapsed one night in 2002.
since then the whole block is absolutely derelict, appart from one car park on each side of the block, one were security are patroling, and the other which is only locked.
there has been talk of Selfridges buying the block and resurecting the building into a huge store with a 110m façade on Trongage, but as economic conditions remain poor, the project appears to have been frozen and even dumped for 6 years.
this report is a compilation from 3 explores,
1st
I first explored this one with Jordan_Young, his frien John, and Cashcroft on the 11th of May, we were a bit stressed about the car park being in use, and we were wondering about security (in fact they were there the whole time, I don't know how we managed not to be seen...)
we only managed an entry into the leather shop on trongate and the building covered in green plastic sheets at the corner of Trongate and Candleriggs.

5.Boris the bird, who kindly posed for us
6.I loved the light in there, the green light is genuine, it's due to the fact that every window was covered in green sheets

8. Can't get enough of these
9.the basement is fairly stripped, but there was remnants of a sort f vault
10.and of an ancient safe
11.this underground bit is the basement of the leather store by the way, where renovation was never finished
12.this one is slighly photoshopped,
I had an epiphany thinking "hey that looks like a dharma station... this one is for Lost fans (the thing must have read "Pharma"
13.Gull's eggs from the roof
14.
15.The green sheet building looks way older from the inside,
I heard that one of the buildings was originaly from Mackintosh,
it could have been that one. (the brick construction is hidden by concrete on the outside)
16.the following pics are from a section on top of the building that seemed to have been disused for a longer time,
I found a tag dating back from the 70s on a wall...

18. any idea of the price of that thing in a vintage furniture shop?
thanks for looking, N2 and N3 explores will follow shortly
