The History
The Railway Warehouse was built for the Great Northern Railway at their Friargate Station in Derby between 1877-8 by Kirk & Randall of Sleaford. The main part of the warehouse was built over three floors with a three story office building towards the front. The basement level was used for storing bonded goods of all types.

Services stopped operating from Friargate station in 1963 and from the goods yard in 1968. Other parts of the redundant line are the nearby Friargate Bridge and Bennerley Viaduct near Ilkeston.
Current owners Clowes intends to restore the warehouse building with possible conversion for apartments. Clowes also announced a deal to create the school on the nine acres of Friargate Goods Yard.

The Explore
This place has been quite well armoured up for a while now, but during a recent walk around I saw an opening and went for it. After some rather ropey balancing and some climbing I found myself inside the GNRW... Plenty to see here so this is a hefty report.

Now on to the cellars and even more naff pictures due to the fact I left the tripod in the car. The cellars are vast and stretch out all the way up to the edge of Great Northern Road. Split into 14 large bays they seem to have been used up until more recently by various businesses such as motorcycle repair shops and car breakers.

Even though it's not strictly UE I thought it fitting to include some pictures of 'The Yard' since earlier this month demolition began on the 9 acre site to create space for the new school. A great shame as it was a veritable art gallery for some very talented artists.

Wonder if there are any hydraulic machines left upstairs or in the basement - there's a picture of what look like pressurised water pipes running up past one window in @HughieD's report.

Beautiful shots. Those cellars look amazing. Never made it to the inside of here though it is without a doubt one of my favourite buildings. Shane the big yard is finally being converted, great art gallery
