Greenbooth Reservoir
Greenbooth Reservoir took over two years to build and was completed in 1961, at a cost of £2,101,000. It was planned and built by the Heywood and Middleton Water Board. The dam itself is at the southern end of the Naden valley and it is the lowest of four reservoirs built in the valley. The dam is 117 feet high and 1,000 feet long. There was a problem with the dam in 1983 when it was reported that the dam appeared to be sinking. A round-the-clock watch was kept on the dam wall and 25 million gallons per day were drained from the reservoir to relieve pressure on it. Repairs were carried out and by 1986 the reservoir was full again. Living quite near to the res I thought it was time for another close inspection..
The valve house and plughole outfall seemed o.k..
Better just give that a closer look...
That should wash out next time it overflows...
Not sure this lot will though..
Just checking for cracks..
Plughole looks in good fettle..
"Nothing to worry about in there"
Hmm that could be a problem in a few years...
I walked up the steep banking looking for signs of seepage or discharge and then closed my flyhole
The Dam wall was like new..
Nowt wrong there..
Better have a closer look at that plughole..
Faultless construction..
Ironwork looks fine and impenetrable
What does that say , best be careful...
Wow that is a dark deep hole..
You can't beat a a bit of foliage round and hole...
Inspection over (well not quite, Ojay over to you)
If anybody knows of any other bodies (of water) or holes that could do with an inspection "who ya gonna call"....Dam-busters
