Visited this one with LeedsExplorer after reading MJS' report at some point last year.

There isn't really any history to piece together with the pictures of this one. It's a culvert that acts as a motorway drainage overflow running from the Ainley Top junction of the M62 right down into Huddersfield town centre, passing through Grimescar Woods and Birkby. After meeting up we decided to go straight to one open section of the culvert that I knew about whilst it was still sunny. The pictures follow.

At this point we realised the past few days of rain had made the water level rise a fair bit down here - if you look at MJS' report this section was practically dry! We chose to turn around and explore a bit further up stream where I thought the culvert began at some concrete pipework. Back down the tunnel we went!

After finding the stoop of all stoopyness we decided to call it a day and go for a celebratory beverage. Rightly so too, all hell broke loose just after we climbed out and it went from sun to monsoon in ten seconds. Definitely need to return to the area - I know of some similar concrete piping further up the beck that MJS didn't seem to catch and I'm curious as to where the outfall lies..

Thanks for reading!
