Built in 1940 to replace an earlier 6" battery that succumbed to cliff errosion and ended up in pieces on the beach. The battery as it stands today comprises of two shelters for 4.7" guns (the 24 bolt holdfasts are still in place, though the western one is very badly eroded), with subterranean magazines and crew shelters.
It's a very unprepossessing site at ground level, but has some interesting underground features.

The covered stairs on the left lead down into the magazine. The open doorway on the right would have had similar covered stairs leading down to the tunnels that connect the gun platforms to the crew quarters. Those tunnel stairs form both shelters are blocked.
